Guthrie’s Kerry call

THE Kerry minor football selectors have included the county’s League of Ireland U-21 soccer goalkeeper Wayne Guthrie in their team for today’s ESB All-Ireland quarter-final against Tyrone in Tullamore tomorrow (3.45pm).
Guthrie’s Kerry call

Kerry were well beaten by Cork in the Munster final and the selectors have wielded the axe in their efforts to return to Croke Park. Apart from Guthrie, Colm O’Shea and Timothy O’Sullivan have all been included at the expense of Jamie Doolan (recovering from a broken bone in his hand), Kevin Flynn and Pat Curtin.

Explaining Guthrie’s shock call-up, Kerry boss John Kennedy said: “After the Munster final, we opened up the panel and we brought eight or nine players into training. Wayne showed up well in training and deserves to start.”
