Hassett and Redmond tops

LIAM HASSETT and Charlie Redmond each walked off last night with €25,000 cheques from the final episode of the Guinness Hurling Bootcamp series on TV3 for their respective charities, Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and Mental Health Ireland.

Redmond emerged as the overall winner of the skills competition, while Hassett, Kerry’s winning captain in 1997, was voted the public’s number one choice.

Hassett joked that while he ‘might never play hurling in Croke Park,’ he came away with a deeper appreciation of the skills of the game. “It’s certainly not as easy as it looks,” he commented.

Chairman of the Killorglan Branch of Mental Health Ireland, he said that the money would ‘put a dent’ in a loan taken out to pay for their mental health resource centre.

Redmond revealed that the Cystic Fibrosis charity was very close to his heart and he was sure that his winnings would be put to good use.
