Lack of guts hard for Loughnane to digest

IT TOOK an age before the Galway dressing-room finally opened to inquisitors on Saturday, an age during which we could hear the frustration of one of the Galway management team being very vocally and very colourfully expressed inside.

The speaker wasn’t Ger Loughnane, however, and when eventually we were beckoned in, he was cool, he was calm, he was collected. Unsurprisingly, however, he was also controversial, launched immediately into a further attack on those who have been giving Clare manager Tony Considine, his friend and former comrade-in-arms, such a hard time.

“I’m disappointed but the other side of it is that I’m delighted for Tony Considine. For all that he’s been through for the last four or five months, the scurrilous deeds that have been done to him by the county board and others – to see him having his day in the sun today is the other side of that coin, for me.
