Moran a man of many talents

KEVIN MORAN’S selection at full back for Waterford in tomorrow’s Munster SHC final may have raised some eyebrows but the De La Salle youngster has been a prospect for some years now within the Déise.

A student at WIT, the 20-year-old has played at full back for the college in the Fitzgibbon Cup, while with his club he’s lined out at half back, midfield and half forward.

Earlier this season he was picked at full forward for the Waterford senior team in their NHL win over Wexford.

Moran, a left hander, is an adaptable performer and a fine long-range free taker, though Ken McGrath is more likely to take the frees from distance on Sunday. Moran is likely to play in midfield with Michael Brick Walsh, with Jack Kennedy falling back to wing back and Ken McGrath going to centre back, or else he may play at left-half back.

A talented Gaelic footballer — Moran is a former Waterford underage Footballer of the Year — he has also caught the eye with top Waterford soccer team Bohemians, and has spent some time on trial at Premiership clubs, including Newcastle.
