Donaghy delivers at the death
At the end of a week in which we were told a little more than we needed to know about Kerry football management, we saw the birth of the Pat O’Shea era christened with a two-point win over Cork in yesterday’s Munster SFC final, 1-15 to 1-13.
Former manager Jack O’Connor’s memoirs, the talk of Killarney before the game, made much of the cult of the fear laidir in Kerry football. You need a fear cruinn to kick scores for you as well, however, and Kieran Donaghy was both yesterday. He, and Sean O’Sullivan’s fine points at the end, put Cork to the sword, giving an often prosaic contest an ending which was tinged with the epic.
