‘Bust-up was blown completely out of proportion by the press’

Paddy Cagney said: “The GAA have let this drag on so long that it now becomes debatable as to whether we should pursue this or not and risk unsettling the players involved or those picked to start instead of them even more. All the pressure is on Waterford now and we should suck it up and I’d give any Cork 15 a chance against Waterford in Thurles.”
However, the talk soon moved to possible line-ups: Toto Schillachi on the same website said: “The most eagerly anticipated announcement of a Cork team in a long time. Kieran Murphy (Sars) would be very unlucky to lose out, he looked sharp against Clare”, while Cloynelad said: “Looks like championship debuts for O’Neill, Hartnett and Nash so.”
On the Clare hurlers section of anfearrua.com the outlook was understandably different. Tom Graney posted: “Can somebody please explain? Cork came out early, started the melee, continued with the melee at the wrong end of the pitch but end up with a player less suspended than the Banner Boys?”
Black n Amber added: “No-one should be suspended from Thurles. It was pure and utter handbags. I don’t think there was a single blow struck in the whole thing. It was blown completely out of all proportion by the press. The only action that should have been taken was fining Cork for coming out early and going to the wrong side.”
Striking a note of caution from the sunny southeast was Traverse Gear: “As a Waterford man, if we were to win, I would prefer to beat a full strength Cork team. If we are to lose now.... we’d never live it down.”
