Thurles business nothing but an anti-hurling conspiracy

FROM the people who brought you a new National Hurling League competition with a lopsided nine teams in Division One; who brought you an All-Ireland hurling championship qualifier series where the Munster team knocked out in round one has an easier passage to the All-Ireland quarter-final than any of the teams knocked out in the following rounds; from those big-thinking brains of the GAA, we now have the system whereby it’s proposed that eight players are suspended from the biggest games of their season to date, for their part in the same kind of incident for which just two players received yellow cards on exactly the same day. Classic GAA.

I note also that the braying brigade are at full volume, cranking up the hysteria, many from the same asinine mob that was baying for the head of Colin Lynch after the Munster final of 1998, and got it, that bayed for the blood of Gerry Quinn after the Henry Shefflin incident a couple of years ago, and were frustrated.

I have a feeling they’ll get their way again on this occasion but here, never-the-less, my effort to hold back the rising tide of opportunistic righteousness and indignation. Opportunistic? I’ll get to that.
