Canning adamant on senior decision
The Portumna youngster had a magnificent Fitzgibbon Cup campaign with LIT scoring 5-33 in the four games played, and clearly has come under increased pressure to change his mind about accepting Ger Loughnaneâs invitation to join the Galway senior set up.
âI donât know where the talk of me joining the Galway senior squad has come from, but my plans have not changed,â he said.
âOnce my exams are over, I intend taking six weeks out and doing some travelling. I will be available for the county Under-21 team and the club for the Galway championship, but I intend waiting until 2008 before joining up with the senior squad â provided of course Iâm still wanted.â
Referring to the Fitzgibbon Cup win by LIT, Canning said it was a wonderful achievement and one he thoroughly enjoyed.
âThe fact that it was played over a short space of time meant a team had to be its very best in every match,â he said. âIt was a very tough campaign as we had to beat four of the better colleges to win it. Itâs a medal I will cherish.â
