Calnan hat-trick kills off Carbery
It was a hat-trick of goals by Clon centre-forward Colm Calnan that decided the destiny of the title. His third goal came in the 56th minute, after Carbery had battled back from an eight-point deficit.
Calnan’s second in the 47th minute might have been down to poor Carbery defending, but his opener in the 25th minute lit up a splendid Black Field venue — a real cracker after ripping through the Rangers defence.
Calnan’s cracking goal put Clon in the ascendency and leading 1-5 to 0-3 at the break.
In the 36th minute, Conrad Murphy scored Clon’s second goal. However, three minutes later they got a lifeline when James Kingston finished McMahon’s probing ball to the net.
Then John Hayes showed his class. He scored a goal and a point in quick succession, before Calnan’s third finished the game off.
