We’ll be ready for Erin’s Own challenge, warns O’Rourke

WOLFE Tones coach Pat O’Rourke has warned Cork champions Erin’s Own they will face a different team in Cork on Sunday week.

He admitted that yesterday’s performance at Cusack Park was not good enough but stressed that they will be ready and won’t be overawed when they take on Erin’s Own.

“At this level you are playing county champions from each county and every team is going to be a good team,” he said.

“Down below in Cork the favourites tag will go on to Erin’s Own — I mean we have to travel — but that’s the law of the land in this competition and if you want to win it, you just have to play these teams and hopefully beat them.”

While he was not overly excited about their performance against Bruree, he insisted it was good to be over the first hurdle.

“You are going in against an unknown quantity at this level — playing against teams you probably would not have met before in challenges or competitions, so basically you can only concentrate on your own game.

“Bruree — their first time ever playing at Munster club level — were going to give it one hell of a shot and in the first half they did.

“Our lads were slow to get out of the blocks. We have had two tough matches on the last two weekends. We played the county final two weeks ago and the league final last weekend and I think it told in the first half. We were very slow to settle. I think we looked a bit tired and sluggish.

“We had a few words at half time and we came out in the second half and picked up the pace. The first half display was not good enough for this level.

“Most players want to play at this level and when you are at this level you want to give it your best. The players knew themselves they had not given their best in the first half and it was a matter of going out after half time and producing the goods.

“We are delighted. To concede only one point into a breeze in the second half you can only be happy. It is a win and we look forward to the next day. We will rest up now. We have three hard matches in three weekends.”
