O’Keeffe slams calendar changes

KERRY selector Ger O’Keeffe has launched a stinging broadside on the revamped GAA calendar and structures agreed at Special Congress last weekend, insisting the measures will only serve to increase pressure on inter-county players.

As Kerry full back Michael McCarthy announced his retirement from inter-county football yesterday at 28, the outgoing Kingdom selector warned that more and more GAA stars will walk away in their prime if they are put in a club v county bind.

“Last Saturday’s congress was all about satisfying club delegates and only did damage to the cause of the inter-county player, who is being pulled in all directions,” O’Keeffe argued.
