Ballingeary too hot for fancied Valley Rovers
After being beaten in thepenultimate stage of the 2005 JFC, they accepted the invitation to step up to the intermediate grade. What made this victory more memorable was the way they pulled out all the stops when they looked like being overrun in the second-half.
Twice they had to come from behind. But, they played with massive conviction and confidence to be worthy of the recognition. They had at least one star in every line of the field and each of the 16 men worked their socks off.
Ballingeary: A Ó Coinceannainn 0-6 (0-4 frees), B Ó Coinceannainn 1-0, L Seartan 0-3, E Ó Coill 0-2, P Ó Coinceannainn and P Ó Buachalla 0-1 each. Valley Rovers: E Manning 2-1, F Lynch 0-5 (0-3 frees), R Butler 0-1.
A MIXTURE of youth and experience helped Caheragh to a match-saving point (0-8 apiece) in yesterday’s Cork county J‘A’FC quarter-final at Kealkil.
Deep in injury time their most experienced campaigner, Pat Hegarty, got on the end of one last move and won a free. Cork minor Colm O’Driscoll showed nerves of steel to convert the 64th minute kick and it’s back to Kealkil again for a replay.
Adrigole: Kevin ‘Ger’ O’Sullivan 0-5 (0-3 frees), T O’Shea, B ‘Ger’ O’Sullivan, P ‘Batt’ O’ Sullivan 0-1 each. Tadhg Mac Cárthaighs: J Herlihy 0-3, C O’Driscoll 0-3 frees, C O’Sullivan 0-2.
THERE was a show of strength from Ballinhassig at Ballygarvan yesterday, with their second string proving too strong for Ballymartle, the score 1-16 to 0-7 as they regained the South East J‘A’HC in fine style.
No question these are good times for Ballinhassig hurling. With their senior team now mingling with the big boys and their junior B team also in the Carrigdhoun final, this was a significant victory and one achieved with style and know-how.
Despite the rain Ballinhassig stormed into the contest. They were sharp and focused from the off and once Kevin O’Sullivan pointed a free in the third minute, they were in control.
Ballinhassig: M. Desmond 1-3, P. Coomey 0-4, K. O’Sullivan (0-1 free, 0-1 65), D. Casey 0-3 each, M. Keohane 0-2, B. Duggan 0-1. Ballymartle: B. O’Dwyer (frees) 0-2, E. Corry, F. Murphy, J. Kennedy (65), B. Coleman, J. O’Mahony 0-1 each.
