Again it was super-sub Kevin Butterworth who proved the hero of the hour for the city side with a superb winning point three minutes from the end of normal time.
The Skibbereen side kicked a total of 14 wides to their opponents 8 and were also denied by outstanding Na Piarsaigh teenage goalkeeper Dean Power, who made three brilliant stops.
As in their previous game against Mallow, Na Piarsaigh again hit the ground running and were 1-5 to the good after eight minutes.
A fine opportunist goal from corner-forward Alan Keane in the 24th minute cut the deficit to two points and it remained 1-8 to 1-6 in the winners’ favour at the break.
Lightning fast points from Colin Crowley and Conor McCarthy immediately after the resumption brought O’Donovan Rossa level.
The lead changed hands on a number of occasions while the heroics of goalkeeper Power prevented O’Donovan Rossa from taking command.
O’Donovan Rossa did take the lead for the first time in the 50th minute with a point from corner forward Aaron O’Regan, but a fine Na Piarsaigh point from Alan Brady levelled matters for the third time. Na Piarsaigh struck the front again in the closing stages when points from the impressive Diarmuid McDonald and Kevin Butterworth gave them the advantage. Rossas narrowed the gap to the bare minimum with a splendid point from midfielder John O’Sullivan in injury time. But Na Piarsaigh grimly held on to register a third successive triumph.
