Dervan stars as Mullagh stay alive

CATHAL DERVAN was the hero as Mullagh kept their Galway SHC hopes alive when they dismissed St Thomas by 2-18 to 0-11 at Loughrea yesterday.

Dervan scored goals in either half as Mullagh saw off a St Thomas challenge which never got off the ground.

Dervan’s opening goal from a free after 25 minutes helped Mullagh to a 1-7 to 0-7 lead and they pulled away after the restart.

Dervan killed the game as a contest when he flicked home his second goal after 51 minutes and they will now go on to meet Carnmore in the next round.

Ballinderreen ensured senior status for next season when they defeated Meelick/Eyrecourt by 1-18 to 0-17.

Packie Carr got the all important goal after 53 minutes to decide the issue.

Meelick/Eyrecourt will now battle it out with three other teams to decide which pair are relegated to intermediate.
