SLIGO officials are pleased with the success of their efforts in having footballers Eamonn O’Hara and Padraig Doohan exonerated following their dismissals in the recent Bank of Ireland championship qualifier game against Westmeath on July 15.

Suspensions on both players were overturned by the Central Disciplinary Committee at their midweek meeting, following a review of the incidents. However, the Sligo Board has decided not to comment publicly on the outcome.

Sligo’s Brendan Egan received a four-week suspension, which dates from the game.

Meanwhile, the Central Appeals Committee has turned down an appeal from Donegal full-back Paddy Campbell against his four-week suspension following the incident in the Ulster semi-final against Derry on June 18. The decision of the Central Disciplinary Committee in the matter was upheld.

This rules him out of the fourth-round qualifier game against Fermanagh on Sunday.

In O’Hara’s case, the CDC accepted it was mistaken identity which led to him getting a second yellow card. Sligo provided video evidence to support their case as well as the incident relating to Padraig Doohan. Officials felt he was unfortunate to get a red card for what was regarded as a fair shoulder.

*Longford hurler Sean Browne was suspended for 12 weeks from the date of the Nicky Rackard Cup quarter-final with Louth on July 22, while Waterford footballer Michael Ahern was noted as being suspended for four weeks from the date of his last game.
