The three-time Sigerson Cup winner had been originally admitted on Monday afternoon after complaining of headaches, nausea and a shortage of breath, just 24 hours after playing a part in the one-point defeat of Down in the Ulster championship.

The St Michael’s player was kept under observation for two days and underwent a number of tests, after which staff at the hospital decided he was fit and able to leave.

Speaking yesterday, Donegal manager Brian McIver said he expected Toye to take a full part in training tonight, which would suggest he will be ready for the Ulster semi-final against Derry on Sunday week.

There was further good news for McIver yesterday as brothers Eamon and Neil McGee were also declared fit after sustaining knocks in the one-point win over Down in Balleybofey last weekend.

Key attacker Brian Roper is also expected to feature for the forthcoming Derry match. The Aodh Ruadh forward missed last weekend’s victory because of a fractured thumb but is having the cast removed this Monday.

Meanwhile, Down football could be about to lose one of it’s brightest young stars with the news that another Irish teenager is contemplating the prospect of taking up a career in Australian Rules.

Martin Clarke was a pivotal part of Down’s All-Ireland minor-winning side last year at centre-forward and he is to meet the AFL’s chief scout in Ireland, Paul Earley before the weekend.
