Central Council to rule on Offaly subs

THE Central Council of the GAA meets this afternoon to decide what action, if any, to take over Offaly’s use of six substitutes in their Leinster SFC clash with Kildare at Croke Park.

The main business of the meeting is to agree the text of the rule changes as a result of April’s Congress, but it will also consider the request by the Leinster Council for clarification on the rule governing blood replacements following the game.

The Leinster Council met on May 29 but failed to come to any conclusion regarding the implications of Rule 113 (b), the rule regarding the use of a temporary substitution if a player on the pitch is bleeding.

Meanwhile The Sunday Game and The Sunday Game Live are already attracting huge audiences on RTÉ Television, with last weekend’s programmes showing a big increase on the same weekend last year.

Last weekend’s The Sunday Game Live on RTÉ Two attracted an average audience of 399,000, with a peak of 472,000 viewers tuning into see the final minutes of Cork v Clare in the Munster Hurling Championship. This compares with an average audience of 227,000 for The Sunday Game Live during the same weekend last year.

The Sunday Game highlights programme on RTÉ Two also continues to go from strength to strength with an average audience of 246,000 tuning in last weekend to see the highlights of the day’s action, climbing to a peak audience of 292,000, which is the highest viewership of the series so far this year.

Glen Killane, RTÉ Head of Sport, said: “The Sunday Game and The Sunday Game Live have firmly established themselves as the premier GAA television programmes.

“We are delighted that in its 26th year the programme’s audience continues to increase.
