Murphy shines as dynamic Dingle surprise Kilcummin

KERRY goalkeeper Diarmuid Murphy was one of the stars for Dingle who surprised Kilcummin on their home ground in last night’s Kerry Senior Football Championship.

Dingle were leading by six points, 0-14 to 0-8, when Kilcummin were awarded a penalty midway through the second half. Murphy easily stopped DJ Fleming’s shot. And immediately from the clearance, Aidan O’Neill put the ball over the bar for Dingle to help guide them to victory.

THERE was never any doubting the outcome of this AIB Kerry senior football championship opener in Currow yesterday once St. Kieran’s recovered from a shaky start to the second half and put up the scores which eased them into a controlling position. With full-back Padraig Reidy excelling in defence, their victory was guaranteed long before the final whistle.

Scorers: St. Kieran’s: J. Buckley 0-3; T. McGoldrick 0-3 (0-1 free); D. Buckley 0-2; M. Horgan, E. O’Donoghue and K. Brennan 0-1 each. East Kerry: N. O’Mahony and S. Donnelly 0-2 each; R. O’Donovan (‘45) and M. O’Donoghue 0-1 each.
