O’Sullivan stars as new-look Rebels ease home

The game marked the return after injury of Dermot Earley to the Kildare midfield and of Nicholas Murphy, at centre forward for the visitors.

Backed by a strong first-half breeze, Cork led by 0-8 to 0-6 at the interval but the margin didn’t look enough with wind advantage to come for Kildare. However an intelligent second half performance against the wind saw them outscore Kildare by 1-5 to 0-6. The crucial score came six minutes into the second half. A shot by full forward Bernie Collins wasn’t cleared and Ilen Rovers man Kevin O’Sullivan bundled the ball home to finish the night with 1-8.
