Birr manager slates disciplinary system

BIRR’S All-Ireland club hurling winning manager Pat Joe Whelahan has criticised the GAA’s disciplinary system after being forced to watch his side defeat Castletown in the Leinster championship from the stands.

Whelahan was banned from the sideline after he was yellow-carded during last March's All-Ireland final victory over Clarinbridge of Galway. The ban will also be in operation for the side's next game in Leinster against St Mullins of Carlow.

"Cork boys can put in six subs, a Kerry fella can get a red card and can still play away and they give me a two-match ban for a yellow card. I think what they're doing is wrong," Whelahan complained after his side's three-point win over the Laois champions in O'Moore Park on Sunday.
