Munster Council post for Moroney
Mr Moroney was appointed to take over from Donie Nealon, who steps down at the end of the year after 26 years in office.
The position will be full-time and the appointment coincides with the development of new council offices in Limerick which are expected to be ready later this year.
Mr Moroney was former Hurling Secretary and County Board Secretary in Clare during the 1980’s before then moving on to Dublin to pursue a career in the Civil Service.
He later returned to County Clare on his appointment as Town Clerk and has been very active with the Eire Óg (Ennis) and Inagh Clubs ever since.
After moving steadily through the Civil Service, Mr Moroney comes with excellent GAA credentials and also as an administrator of outstanding ability.
Council chairman Mr Christy Cooney said he was very much looking forward to working with the new secretary.
Paying tribute to Donie Nealon, Mr Cooney said it was the end of one era and the beginning of another for the Munster Council.
“It’s a sad occasion to see Mr Nealon departing.
“He has given magnificent service to the GAA all his life along with all members of his family and I’m sorry to see him go,” he said.
Mr Moroney’s appointment was formally ratified at last night’s meeting of the council held in the new Waterford County Board Offices at Walsh Park.
