Star hurlers score at championships

GLANBIA yesterday honoured two All-Ireland winning Cork hurlers at the ploughing championships.

Special presentations were made to milk supplier Timmy McCarthy, Castlelyons, and Brian Murphy, Kildinan, Rathcormac, whose family also supplies milk to the food producing giant.

Glanbia vice chairman Liam Herlihy said there has always been a strong link between the GAA and Glanbia through sponsorship of both the Kilkenny and Waterford teams, employees, suppliers and customers.

"Glanbia's catchment area stretches from East Cork to County Armagh and we are proud of our community involvement in sports and other areas," he said. Meanwhile, Glanbia under its Avonmore Super Milk brand, announced details of a new sponsorship deal with Munster schools and youths rugby fro the 2004-2005 season with a review and two-year option at the end of season one in May.

The package includes the Munster schools and youths provincial teams as well as the Munster schools cups (senior and junior) and Munster youths cup (club).

Munster branch president Niall O'Driscoll welcomed the sponsorship, while Glanbia Foods commercial director Eoin Doyle said he hoped it would mark the start of a long relationship between the company and Munster rugby.
