Flynn injury doubt for Waterford ahead of Rebel rematch
The Ballygunner ace sustained a thigh injury in Waterford’s defeat by Clare in the qualifiers and has been reduced to light training since.
Last night Déise PRO John Jackson revealed there was a “huge concern” about Flynn for Sunday’s big game.
A decision on Flynn’s fitness will be taken before the Waterford team is named tonight.
Jackson said: “If Paul was to miss out it would be a major blow for us. Over the years he has been our outstanding forward and his scoring feats have been absolutely marvellous.”
Meanwhile, Clare, for programme purposes, have named the same team for their quarter-final showdown with Wexford that started against Waterford at Cusack Park last Sunday week.
But manager Anthony Daly will not announce his team until the weekend.
“We have a few niggling injuries and that is causing the delay in finalising the team,” explained the Clare boss.
It is understood however, that left corner forward Andrew Quinn, who was substituted in the win over Waterford, is in danger of losing his place.
Dublin have been boosted by the return from injury of free-taker and team captain David Curtin ahead of Saturday’s All-Ireland SHC relegation semi-final against Laois at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow.
The Ballyboden-St Enda’s sharpshooter missed out on Dublin’s narrow defeat to Offaly last time out after suffering a hand injury against Waterford.
O’Toole’s Philip Brennan has also returned to training with the squad. With the U-21 side in action last night in the Leinster final against Kilkenny, the Dublin team for Saturday’s important clash will not be named until tonight at the earliest.
For their relegation semi-final against Antrim at Croke Park on Saturday, Offaly will be without corner forward Dylan Hayden, who left for America yesterday.
Limerick minor hurlers show three changes from the team that lost to Cork in the Munster final for Saturday’s All-Ireland quarter-final against Antrim at Parnell Park.
Goalkeeper Ger Flynn has a broken finger and is replaced by Padraig Kennedy, while Richard McCarthy and Michael Ryan replace Denis O’Connor and Diarmuid O’Sullivan.
Cork have named an unchanged team from the side that defeated Kerry in the Munster JFC final for tomorrow night’s All-Ireland semi-final against Sligo in Birr.
