CROKE PARK last night warned county boards of the ‘serious consequences’ of any future ambush marketing coups by companies.

The warning follows last Sunday’s controversial deal between a beer company and Cork hurlers Niall McCarthy and Kieran Murphy, who wore the brand on their boots in the All-Ireland quarter-final.

The ‘much publicised exercise’ infuriated GAA top brass, who will move quickly to close off any loopholes in playing gear regulations for players.
