Fuming Erins Own may withdraw

BRIAN Corcoran’s Erins Own are considering pulling out of Cork’s SHC quarter-final on Sunday in a bitter row with the County Board over the clash with Newtownshandrum.

Fuming Erins Own may withdraw

The club have called an extraordinary general meeting tonight after failing to get a postponement at Tuesday’s County Board meeting, and will vote on whether to fulfil the fixture.

Erins Own sought the postponement after two of their key players, Brian Corcoran and Kieran Murphy, were injured playing with Cork in last Sunday’s All-Ireland semi-final win against Clare.

They insist that, in the circumstances, the game should be deferred as the duo in question were injured with the county and not with the club.

Board executives insist that a postponement for player injuries would create a dangerous precedent.
