In a golden era for hurling Hartnett was the very definition of a bustling centre-forward, starring in the number 11 jersey when Cork beat Galway in the tempestuous All-Ireland hurling final of 1953, flanked by clubmate Jim Lynam and Carrigtwohill’s Willie John Daly.
