Nobody played up to standard, says mystified Tompkins

FIFTEEN minutes after they trooped out of their dressing-room, disconsolate, shocked by what had unfolded, the Cork footballers were still trying to come to terms with the reality of their situation.

Coach Larry Tompkins was philosophical to the extent that his team has a second chance, but readily admitted to being at a loss to explain what had happened.

"We have a lot of good players. I would say that nobody probably played up to standard there today. That's the way it goes. We're just lucky that we have another chance," he said.
