He claimed yesterday that the absence of flood-lighting and a giant screen are the only other disadvantages associated with the construction of a stadium to world-class standards.
Built at a cost of €265m over a period of 12 years and now boasting a capacity of 82,300, the official opening yesterday of what is to be known as the Hill 16 and Nally End terrace marked the formal completion of the fourth phase.
“People would expect in a stadium which is doing so much for spectator facilities that we would do more to protect people from the weather,” said Mr Mulvihill.
“That means that the roof aspect is going to have to be looked at in the future.
“The main features we lack are floodlights, better quality cover and a big screen. Most of our other facilities are on a par or better than anything I have seen anywhere.”
