McKenna appointed new Limerick selector

FORMER all-star Joe McKenna was last night ratified as the new selector to the Limerick senior hurling team, replacing Damien Quigley who had quit due to family reasons.

McKenna appointed new Limerick selector

It means, for the first time, Limerick will have two selectors from the same club, as selector Declan Nash is also from South Liberties.

McKenna acted as hurling team liaison officer last season.

He was nominated for the position by the County Board Executive and there was support for his appointment from delegates at last night's County Board meeting. Offaly-born McKenna won an All-Ireland senior hurling title in 1973.

He is a personal friend of businessman JP McManus who, earlier this year, gave a €5 million donation to help rebuild the Gaelic Grounds.
