THE Government’s decision to renege on it’s pledge of funding for Croke Park will have catastrophic consequences for the GAA at grassroots level, according to Fine Gael spokesperson on sport, Jimmy Deenihan.

Earlier this week, outgoing GAA President Sean McCague warned the Association faces a ‘crippling debt’ if the 38 million grant promised by the Government for the reconstruction of Croke Park is not paid.

Mr Deenihan, who captained Kerry to an All-Ireland title, believes that the financial pressure which is now being placed on the Association could ultimately be felt by those at club level, especially those in the underage structures.
