Late Galvin goal puts Kilmacud Crokes into last eight

CONOR GALVIN’S goal six minutes before the half-time break helped Kilmacud Crokes to a seven point win over Ballymun Kickhams (1-10 to 0-6) and progression to the last eight of the Dublin SFC at Parnell Park on Saturday evening.

Crokes led 0-2 to 0-1 after 10 minutes but an excellent Stephen Cowap point in the 11th minute and a well-positioned Paddy Christie free had the northsiders level. Crokes nosed ahead with Ray Cosgrove's first point but a Condon free after Christie had made 45 metres on a solo run brought equality again.

In the 18th minute Ballymun took the lead for the first time since the opening score of the game when Brian McCullagh slotted over from 35 metres but it was Crokes who dominated the closing passage of the half.

Liam Óg O hEineachain kicked a point and from the Donal Hardiman's kick-out Liam McBarron combined with Keith Galvin to release Kerry native Galvin, who showed good strength under pressure, before rifling to the roof of the net with his left foot helping his side to a 1-5 to 0-4 lead.

Points from Declan Kelleher a fine effort off his left and a Cosgrove free pushed Crokes 1-7 to 0-5 clear as Ballymun stuggled to find their feet.

St Brigids edged past Naomh Fionnbarra (1-16 to 0-15) at Parnell Park in the Dublin SFC double header at Parnell Park yesterday.

A goal after 10 minutes from Raymie Gallagher put Brigid's 1-2 to 0-2 in front but the Cabra side battled back with scores from Ian McDonnell.

By the 24th minute Brigid's had moved 1-6 to 0-5 clear but St Finbarr's finished the half in confident fashion with points from Ian McDonnell jnr (two, one free) and Russell with the Brigid's defence looking vulnerable.

Twenty-five seconds into the second half Thomas Lynch brought Finbarr's level with a good point from the right wing from 40 metres but crucially never got in front with the free-taking of Rory Gallagher vital to Brigid's survival.

Erins Isle made it into the last eight of the Dublin SFC when 1-3 inside the opening 10 minutes helped them past Whitehall Colmcille at Parnell Park yesterday.

Niall Crossan had two points from play by the third minute and a Wayne McCarthy free put them 0-3 to 0-0 clear by the fourth minute.

Six minutes later McCarthy struck for the only goal of the game when he fired to the corner of the net.
