O’Connor and O’Neill are tops

STEPHEN O’NEILL completed a clean sweep of the individual awards when he was named as the Vodafone footballer of the year last night.

Cork’s Jerry O’Connor gained the hurling award and the respective Young Player of the Year accolades went to Joe Kernan’s son Aaron and Galway hurler David Collins.

O’Neill had similarly been voted Footballer of the Year by both the GPA and the Texaco selectors.

O’Connor, too, won the Texaco award, while the GPA members voted John Gardiner as the top hurler of 2005.
