Death of former Galway football star Jack Mahon
Jack, who was a native of Dunmore, had battled bravely against illness for some time.
His death, coming only weeks after that of another great from the 1956 team, Sean Purcell, was a shock to all who knew him.
A prolific writer of books on the GAA, Jack, who was in his early 70s, had also been principal of Moonageeshia Community College in Galway city for many years.
He is survived by his wife Eileen, sons John, Pierce, Karl and Branwell, daughters Lisa and Genevieve and grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Brian and Tom, sisters Eithne, Louie and Peggy and a wide circle of relations and friends.
