Foley stars as Patrickswell sound warning

The losers dictated the early play and four frees from Alan O’Connor put them ahead, with Paul O’Grady knocking over two for the ’Well.

A Wesley Morrissey in the 22nd minute gave the ’Well a 1-5 to 0-7 interval lead.

However, former Limerick player Barry Foley was the central figure on the resumption. He snatched his first goal on 36 minutes and followed up with another seven minutes later to put his side into a 3-7 to 0-8 lead.

Ballybrown managed an Alan O’Connor goal and four points in the second-half.

At the other end, Vincent O’Doherty raised a green flag and with Foley knocking over a string of points, last year’s beaten semi-finalists won with ease.

Monaleen 1-8 Adare 0-5

LIMERICK star Muiris Gavin scored five points as Monaleen chalked up another win in the Limerick SFC at Mungret.

Adare began well, as Conor Fitzgerald put them two points in front after five minutes, but Monaleen knuckled down.

Gavin put the ball over three times and then Jason O’Brien rattled the net on 17 minutes.

Adare failed to score again in that half and were 1-6 to 0-2 behind at the break.

Monaleen lost their gloss in heavy rain on the turnover and struggled to find a pattern.

Fitzgerald and Stephen Lavin edged Adare closer but they were out of luck when substitute James Hickey drove a penalty straight at goalkeeper Paddy O’Halloran.

Gavin and Peter Russell put over points for the winners to see them through.
