THERE is little likelihood of the GAA leadership deciding to compel counties to cut back on the extent of inter-county preparations because of spiralling costs and the increasing risk of burn-out of players.

Revealing yesterday that some counties would favour such a move, Director-General Liam Mulvihill admitted that even if it were the will of the association, it would be very difficult to implement.

However, he readily acknowledged that county boards are facing a major challenge in funding inter-county training costs and that the situation is becoming increasingly serious.
