By doing so, they made it a double for Galway in club competitions with Portumna having won the hurling crown a fortnight ago.

Corofin, who were All-Ireland club champions in 1998, led by a point at half-time with influential captain Alan Donovan making a major impact.

After the restart, Corofin’s incisive play down the left flank proved decisive, creating two valuable points from Trevor Burke which saw the Galway men prevail.

In the semi-finals, Corofin overcame Bryansford of Down by 6-8 to 3-7, while Aodh Rua prevented an all-Galway final from materialising when they defeated reigning All-Ireland club champions Caltra in a penalty shoot-out.
