Rebels ring in the changes for Waterford clash
Kevin Hartnett of Russell Rovers, and Cloyne’s Conor Cusack, are also included in the All-Ireland champions’ line-up.
Murphy takes over his customary right corner-back position, with Killian Cronin and Cian O’Connor retaining their full-back and left corner-back places following last weekend’s draw with Offaly in Birr.
Wayne Sherlock is moved from right corner-back to right half-back, with Ronan Curran at centre-back. Diarmuid O’Sullivan moves to left half-back, to the exclusion of Shane O’Neill.
Tom Kenny and Kevin Hartnett form a new midfield partnership, with Kieran Murphy of Erin’s Own at right half-forward, Niall McCarthy at centre-forward, and Mickey O’Connell operating on the left flank of attack.
Joe Deane, scorer of 1-7 last Sunday, is selected at full-forward, with Conor Cusack in the left corner.
Tipperary have made three changes from the team which drew with Limerick for the clash with Kilkenny.
Damien McGrath, Ken Dunne and Johnny Enright come into the side at the expense of Liam England, Niall Curran and Shane McGrath.
Goalkeeper Liam Donoghue has again been handed the captaincy as Galway bid to end their 18-year wait to recapture the All-Ireland title. The Clarinbridge clubman skippered Galway in the final last year.
Meanwhile Darragh Ryan returns at full-back on the Wexford side to meet Clare at Wexford Park.
It will be the St Anne’s man’s first inter-county game since the All-Ireland quarter-final loss to the same opponents in Croke Park last July. Ryan’s return means club colleague David O’Connor moves to centre-back in place of injured Declan Ruth.
PJ Nolan will make his first start at right half-forward. MJ Furlong comes in at the left corner, with Stephen Doyle on the bench.
Clare, runaway winners over Down in their opening game, have made one enforced change in their side. Left corner-forward Andrew Quinn has been ruled out and his substitute in the Down game, Fergal Lynch, is now given a starting position. Niall Gilligan, who missed the Down game because of a shoulder injury, is in the substitutes.
Galway football captain Padraig Joyce will miss Sunday’s Connacht FBD League final against Mayo at Tuam Stadium. Joyce is one of several players unavailable to Galway boss Peter Ford. Salthill trio Michael Donnellan, Finian Hanley and Sean Armstrong are unlikely to feature ahead of their All-Ireland club final.
