Limerick GAA chief apologises to Moran family
Moran sustained a head injury early midway through the match and was removed to a local hospital. Mr Fitzgerald told delegates at a board meeting that on checking with the hospital they were left with the impression that Moran, who had suffered from concussion, was being detained overnight for observation. It subsequently emerged that the player was released from hospital later that evening and had to organise his own transport to return home.
Fitzgerald also uttered his disappointment that Waterford fans outnumbered those from Shannonside at the replay. “It was the first time we had been outnumbered at any major game ... it was disappointing to see more Waterford people than our own at Thurles.” The usual encouragement, he continued, was absent from the stand and terraces. He appealed to the green-and-white army to make their presence felt at Ennis on Sunday for the football championship semi-final against Clare. When questioned on progress at the Gaelic Grounds, the chairman told delegates they were on target, but had not yet set an official opening date. “We are now reaching a critical stage in our development with final payment due shortly. We could do with support from the commercial and business community in Limerick, and would also greatly appreciate more subscribers to our interest free loan scheme.” To date, 642 people have joined the scheme.
