Galway’s second-half fight back sees off Meath
Galway trailed by four points at half-time in their Division 1B clash, but goals by Annette Clarke and Niamh Fahey fired them to a 2-12 to 1-12 win over the Royals.
Meath had started the game brightly with points by Katie O’Brien, Aoife Thompson and Gillian Bennett (two) putting them four points clear.
Clarke opened Galway’s account with a 20th minute free, but Meath still led 0-8 to 0-4 at the break.
However, the home side dominated the second half and the introduction of Fahey certainly helped them gain the upper hand. Clarke’s goal came directly from a free and midway through the half Fahey registered their second to put them 2-8 to 0-9 ahead.
Thompson scored Meath’s goal in the closing moments, but Galway were home and dry at that stage.
