The Wicklow Camogie Board has launched an inquiry into a brawl which forced a county senior championship semi-final to be abandoned.

Referee Martina Kennedy had to abandon the tie between Kiltegan and Annacurra in Pearse Park, Arklow when players from both sides became involved in the melee. The incident was described as “dangerous and disgraceful” by one witness.

Camogie board PRO Suzanne Pearson said the match official had no option but to halt the game. “I could not say if hurls were used but the brawl was not very nice. The referee had no option but to abandon the game for her own safety and for the safety of the players and officials.
