Hogan inspires Rathnure to thrilling victory
Rathnure led 1-3 to 0-3 after 10 minutes with Hogan getting the first of his two goals, but a Rory Jacob goal hauled Oulart back into contention after 20 minutes at which stage they led by a point, (1-5 to 1-4).
But the champions kept their composure and were rewarded when Hogan fired home his second goal two minutes before the break to leave his side with a 2-7 to 1-5 interval lead.
When Rory Jacob crashed home his second goal within 14 seconds of the restart, Oulart looked like mounting an upset.
But with keeper Jim Morrissey pulling off some superb saves from the Jacob brothers, Rathnure went onto a deserved five-point victory.
A Darragh Ryan inspired St Anne’s shocked hotly-fancied Rapparees in a SHC quarter-final clash at Wexford Park, (3-16 to 2-12). Having led 1-8 to 1-5 at the interval a Redmond Barry goal within minutes of the restart inspired the south county side through to the semi-finals.
Tom Dempsey, with 1-11, helped Buffers Alley to a quarter-final victory over St Martin’s, (1-14 to 0-11).
Buffers Alley led 1-8 to 0-8 at the interval but it was the superb Dempsey who proved the difference between the sides.
Having led 1-8 to 1-6 at the interval, Glynn-Barntown held out for a two-point victory over Faythe Harriers in their quarter-final clash at Wexford Park yesterday, (2-12 to 1-13).
Corner-forward Paul Carley’s tally of 1-9 helped Glynn-Barntown through in a tense finish.
