Fans to bid for portrait of Peter the Great
An official portrait commemorating the retirement of Tyrone All-Ireland winning captain Peter Canavan will be the star auction item at the Club Tyrone champions banquet, which will be held in mid-January.
The oil painting, which is almost life-size, shows Canavan in the dressing room, holding his boots and reflecting on his career with Tyrone at senior, U-21 and minor levels.
The Club Tyrone banquet, which will be attended by the Tyrone All-Ireland winning panel and management will also feature other items for auction, including a specially-commissioned Tyrone Crystal ball (with the signatures of the players and managers) and a TE 05 SAM registration plate. The registration TE 03 SAM was sold for £17,500 (€25,500) at the last Club Tyrone-organised banquet.
Club Tyrone is an organisation with approximately 500 members which contributes £250,000 (€365,000) to the development of the GAA in the county.
It aims to ensure Gaelic games are adequately resourced and that finance is not a difficulty for any of the county’s teams.
