The champions held a one-point lead, 0-7 to 0-6, at the interval and enjoyed a golden spell in the third quarter, with goals from Richie Hogan and Maurice Nolan.

But then Wexford mounted an amazing comeback with Paddy Raftice and Nicky Ryan finding the net.
