But they must first overcome St Flannan’s in this afternoon’s semi-final at Croom, (2.30pm).

The Capwell school were most impresssive when they beat a highly rated DLS side in the quarter-final on a 2-12 to 2-9 scoreline, with Eric Hegarty scoring their goals.

Kevin Murphy, Colin O’Brien and Fiachra Lynch are the key men in defence while in attack they have excellent players in David Coughlan and Padraig Martin.

St Flannan’s are the holders of nine titles, their last in 1999, and if their crushing victory over Nenagh CBS in the quarter-final recently is an indication, then this year’s team is quite capable of taking their title wins into double figures.

James McInerney and Colin Ryan were key players for Newmarket in their recent county U16 HC win and will also have an important role to play for their school along with Ger Arthur.

The second semi-final involving Scarriff and St. Colman’s has been put back to a later date.
