THE GAA and the Australian Football League are in negotiations about committing themselves to a 10-year extension of the International Rules Series.

The first of two meetings took place earlier in the week and another is planned before the weekend. GAA President Sean Kelly and the head of the AFL Commission Ron Evans both spoke of their hopes for the future at a reception hosted in Melbourne by the Governor of Victoria, John Landy. The message they conveyed was one of a strong desire for 'permanency.'

Likewise, Governor Landy, who finished third in the 1956 Olympics 1500 metres event won for Ireland by Ronnie Delaney in the MCG, spoke enthusiastically about the concept.
