Cork GAA officials launch probe over damaged trophy
Nemo Rangers’ second string defeated Carbery Rangers in the final at Páirc Ui Rinn, and it is understood that the trophy was mislaid in the city amid the celebrations which followed.
The following day, the cup was handed in to the Garda Station in Bishopstown in such a poor condition that it is now, reportedly, beyond repair.
Now board chiefs are planning to meet with Nemo officials to ascertain when and where they lost track of the trophy after their big Pairc Ui Rinn triumph. The club had the cup at their South Douglas Road premises on Sunday night.
But there are fears that it may have been put in somebody’s keep when the celebrations continued into the city afterwards.
Known as the Billy Long Cup, it was presented for the intermediate football championship in 1965 when the grade was first introduced.
