It wasn't that Limerick shot a hatful of wides because they didn't, just 11 overall against eight for Offaly. It was the timing of those missed opportunities.

The modern game lasts 70 minutes, but Limerick lost this one in the opening half hour. Enjoying at least an equal share of possession, six wides they shot in that period (against just one for Offaly), one worse than the next, to trail 1-7 to 0-7. Plenty of opportunity to cancel out the effect of that goal but not taken, and it would haunt them for the rest of the game.
