INITIALLY, former captain Mark Foley found it difficult to be positive after Limerick’s narrow defeat at the Gaelic Grounds.

It was the inevitable reaction after a contest which he felt was more or less decided by Cork's early second half goal. When he thought more about it, he took satisfaction from the fact that the players had answered their critics.

"I suppose there's little consolation from losing narrowly, even though we were probably given no chance outside the dressing room," he commented. "But, we felt very confident coming in. We believed if we could keep Cork goalless we'd have a very good chance. But, obviously the goal was the turning point in the game. They got a point from a quick puck-out after that and their tails were up."
