Cork and Laois minor replay to get all-clear today
The investigation into the brawl which developed after their drawn game in Limerick a fortnight ago was finalised at the week-end, but the findings won’t be released until this morning. However, there is the likelihood of individual players from both sides and one team mentor being suspended, with the county committees also being fined.
The game is likely to be replayed in Thurles, as a curtain-raiser to the All-Ireland intermediate hurling final between Cork and Kilkenny.
Meanwhile Clare GAA officials have welcomed the GAC decision to exonerate Gerry Quinn.
The Clare man was accused of striking Kilkenny’s Henry Shefflin in the Guinness All-Ireland SHC quarter-final at Semple Stadium earlier this month.
However the committee found Quinn had no charges to answer, as the referee’s report stated: “There was no foul play involved, in the incident with Kilkenny’s Henry Shefflin.”
Clare officials were “delighted” with the news last night.
“We are very happy with the decision,” county secretary Pat Fitzgerald said, “but at the same time I don’t think there was any case to answer.
“It was blown out of proportion by certain media and, yes, we were disappointed that it came to this and the type of focus was put on the incident.”
Quinn is believed to be taking legal action against RTÉ over the Sunday Game's coverage of the incident.
Donegal’s Brendan Devenney received a six month suspension following his push on Cavan referee Joe McQuillan in their qualifier defeat at the hands of Fermanagh. The news heightens speculation that the attacker could quit inter-county football and concentrate on a soccer career with Finn Harps.
Meanwhile, Tipperary goalkeeper Brendan Cummins became the first man from his county to win the All-Ireland Poc Fada title on Saturday in a new course record over the 5km Cooley mountain course.
