Kearns returns for Galway’s quarter-final clash with Tipp

DUAL STAR Alan Kearns returns to the Galway hurling team for Sunday’s Guinness All-Ireland quarter-final clash with Tipperary at Croke Park.

Kearns, who came on as a substitute during the course of Galway’s victorious qualifier against Limerick, is retained at right half-forward, while both corner-back Chris Coen, and full-forward Kevin Hayes have been dropped and there is also no place for the controversial Eugene Cloonan.

Ollie Canning now takes over Coen’s left corner-back position with Derek Hardiman switching from centre-back to right half-back. Tony Og O’Regan takes over at centre-back with Fergal Healy and Damien Tierney forming a new midfield partnership.

Niall Healy is introduced at left half-forward with Ritchie Murray lining out at full-forward.

Sligo have announced a new left wing attacking pairing of Tony Taylor and Brian Curran for tomorrow’s Bank of Ireland All-Ireland SFC qualifier with Cork at Portlaoise.

Both were introduced as substitutes during the course of the last qualifying win over Clare and now gain first team recognition in preference to Dara McGarty and Gerry McGowan.

For tomorrow’s All-Ireland qualifier with Mayo at Dr. Hyde Park, Co Roscommon, Cavan have named the same team that started against Meath a fortnight ago.

With Trevor Mortimer receiving a one month’s suspension, manager John Maughan last night decided to defer selection of his side.
